How to Play Know Your Neighbor

There are two ways to use the deck of cards:

Use the deck as conversation starters

  • Simply gather with 1 or more people. One person draws a card and asks someone the question. That person answers the question and then they get to ask the next question.
  • The goal is to get to know your friends and new friends better. To open up conversation that build trust and deeper bonds between Christians.
  • You can play with family, friends, church groups, and basically anyone.

How to Play the game:

  • Gather in a circle with 2 or more people. Pick one person to start as "the Judge". The player to their left is in the "Hot Seat".
  • Judge will draw one card and ask the question to the Hot Seat.
  • There are two ways to draw a card:
    1. Shuffle all cards and draw at random
    2. Each round, players draw from the same category. Change category at the end of the round.
  • A question will be asked, an answer will be given and a point will be rewarded.
  • Each category has a simple “rule card” that explains how one must answer to get a “point”.
  • After the point is rewarded the Hot Seat becomes the Judge, and the person to their left becomes the new Hot Seat.
  • Game continues until someone gets 5 points or the rapture happens.

Category Rules

Know Your Neighbor has 6 categories and each come with a rule card. There are two rule types of categories - "open-ended" and "correct or incorrect". Here is what each rule card says on how to use the category to get a point.

Hot Takes

(Open-Ended) If the hot seat answers openly and honestly the judge awards them the point.

In-To-Me-You-See

(Open-Ended) If the hot seat answers openly and honestly the judge awards them the point.

Do You Know Me

DYKM contains three questions, all must be answered correctly to get the point.
If the Hot Seat answers a question wrong that question goes to the next person and so on.
The last person to get the last question gets the point. If it ends up back to the judge, the judge gets the point.

The Hot Seat will be passed to the next person from the original Hot Seat.

Would You Rather

(Open-Ended) If the hot seat answers openly and honestly the judge awards them the point.

Bible Trivia

BT contains right and wrong questions. The right answer gets the point.

The Judge can:
Ask the question to the Hot Seat. A wrong answer results in the next person answering until it gets back to the judge, where the judge gets the point.
Or ask the question to the whole group. They can give one answer in a timely fashion. The judge wins on a wrong answer.

Theolophy

(Open-Ended) If the hot seat answers openly and honestly the judge awards them the point.

Questions

If I’m in the Hot Seat can I skip my turn?

We encourage you to answer any and all questions. If need be you can skip. But you will not receive the point.

What happens if conversation explodes because of one of the questions?

The Judge wields the power to shut it down and move the game forward.

Do we have to play to 5 points?

The points are made up like the rapture, pick however many points you want to play to.
